Junior Project Officer

Functional Setting

The overall objective of the MMD III project is to support the orderly, safe, regular and responsible migration and mobility of people within Africa, and between Africa and Europe. The project continues to support the ICMPD-facilitated migration dialogues Rabat Process, Khartoum Process, and the AU-EU Continent-to-Continent Migration and Mobility Dialogue, and to follow up on the Joint Valletta Action Plan (JVAP). The Junior Project Officer provides specialised and technical input and supports the preparation and administration of grant activities of the EU-funded “Africa-EU Migration and Mobility Dialogue" (MMD III) Project, focusing on the preparation and administration of the Competitive Grants for local authorities (LA), civil society organisations (CSOs) and non-state actors active in migration in Africa. 
The Junior Project Officer works under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager in charge of the Grant Component and in close collaboration with the other members of the project team as well as with other project teams across ICMPD, such as the Procurement and Grants Unit (PGU) and the Corporate Financial and Budget Management Division (CFBM). The Junior Project Officer will support the formulation, management, and evaluation of the grant activities of MMD III.

Position-Specific Expertise

In addition to the expertise already indicated in the generic job description for the Junior Project Officer, the candidate should have the following:  

  • Knowledge and understanding of project monitoring and evaluation tools and techniques.
  • Sound experience in managing administrative and logistical tasks.
  • Knowledge and understanding of migration issues in the African context. 
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a team of colleagues with different backgrounds.
  • Capability to contribute to developing ideas and concepts for new projects and contribute to knowledge management.
  • Previous experience in an international context working with partners (including civil society organisations, diaspora organisations etc.), donors, national stakeholders, and international organisations would be an asset. 

Position-Specific Qualifications and Language Skills

  • Relevant work experience in project implementation.
  • In addition to proficiency in (verbal/written) English, proficiency in (verbal/written) French is also required for this position.
  • Strong skills in MS applications.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset. ​​
