Junior Project Officer

Functional Setting:
The Silk Routes Regional Office will be implementing a new upcoming project in Iraq for which the support of a Junior Project Officer would be required.

The project would seek to focus on information dissemination and awareness raising campaigns among potential migrants and returnees in Iraq. The campaign will apply three intervention levels - mass media, community outreach and personal counselling - to communicate balanced information on irregular migration, options for legal pathways, skills development in Iraq as well as legal, social and economic realities of life of irregular migrants in Europe.

Team Structure: The Junior Project Officer would be based out of ICMPD Iraq Office in Erbil and would work closely with the Iraq and Vienna headquarters based project implementation teams, under the overall supervision of the Head of Office, ICMPD Iraq


Functional Overview:
The Junior Project Officer contributes to the implementation of activities throughout the project(s) life cycle ensuring alignment with the regulatory framework, standard administrative practices and operating procedures of ICMPD. The focus is on supporting project cycle implementation, ensuring that the project(s) plan(s) and scheduled activities are fully implemented, and in providing substantive inputs to the design and formulation of project proposals. S/he provides logistical and administrative support to project activities. 

Position-Specific Expertise:
  • An understanding of Iraq's governance structures, politics and ministerial dynamics, migration policies, action plans and strategies is considered an asset
  • Experience working on migration related topics in Iraq or similar national contexts (especially MENA region) is considered an asset
  • Experience working on reintegration of returning migrants, post-conflict rehabilitation, durable solutions for displaced persons, youth engagement, community engagement and related topics is considered an asset
Position-Specific Qualifications and Language Skills:
  • Master degree in public policy/administration, migration studies, international development or related subjects is considered an asset
  • In addition to the languages listed in the job profile (i.e. fluent English), fluency in Sorani (Kurdish) is considered a requirement. Proficiency in Arabic is a requirement.​
